The first week of practice will usually be all conditioning. Lots of running and core work, and time on the ergs for the returning rowers.
Bring running shoes and appropriate clothing.
We will make every effort to coordinate among parents some sort of carpool, especially for novice rowers. There is no direct transportation to the boathouse from PHS. We understand that this is critical for some families, and encourage parents of younger rowers to contact one another as soon as they can.
The AATA has a bus service to the Amtrak station via route 17.
NOTE: The Carpool Coordinator listed on the contact page is responsible for local regatta carpooling only, not practice carpooling.
There will be a group swim test for all new novices, unless otherwise informed by your coach. This will take place at the Pioneer Pool and you will be notified of the date by the Head Coach. It will consist of 10 minutes of treading water followed by a 50m swim. ALL COXSWAINS AND ROWERS MUST PASS THE SWIM TEST IN ORDER TO BE ON THE CREW TEAM.
If you cannot make this date, you will need to make arrangements on your own to take the test with a certified life guard. Bring a copy of the swim test form and have it signed by the attending guard.
